Magix Movie Edit Pro 2018 With OBS
When I record my gameplay I simply upload the whole lot or use basic free software to cut out portions without anything else. I’ve always wanted to do a little more and when Magix Move Edit Pro came to my attention I thought maybe it might be worth buying. Amazon were doing a digital download ESD version for £24.00 so I decided to give it a go.
The download link from Amazon is quite old, they supply a 2016 version which didn’t even work with my MP4 OBS recordings, this was apparent after many attempts so I uninstalled and downloaded the installer directly from Magix. This solved most of the problems and I could import my MP4 files but things were still not quite as expected. The video playback within Magix Movie Edit Pro suffered from Audio sync issues and even my exported videos had issues if they had been edited. Searching online for a solution revealed varied and dated results with no real answer so this got me wondering, is it a combination of factors associated with my setup?
My MP4s are video recordings produced by OBS Studio and I use the Intel QuickSync H.264 encoder within my CPU, for some reason I was thinking maybe this is part of the issue. The good thing with OBS is you can change the encoder so I switched to the Nvidia encoder on my GTX 970 (NVENC H.264) and tried a few recordings in Magix Movie Edit Pro to see how it would perform. The results were a fully working piece of software with no video / audio sync issues. So the problem lies with OBS and how it is using the Intel QuickSync encoder, maybe it needs looking into by the OBS developers but for me at least I found a solution.
Here is a video of GTA 5
Overall I’m pleased with the software, it’s easy to use and fairly quick to export videos, (I’ll try to find out why OBS causes the audio sync problems when using the QuickSync encoder).
