My New ISP: Virgin Media Vivid 350

It has been nearly 3 months since switching to Virgin Media and so far I cannot complain. Everything has worked, the modem router they supply is OK but the router side is a little weak as my speedtest results are faster when using my PFSense box. In terms of differences compared to BT Infinity 2 it is way more responsive when gaming online. A game I play Black Desert Online saw a massive improvement which is an MMO with hundreds of players online in a server. Everything with Virgin Media is smooth and the character’s combat animations, movement and world bosses / other players are all moving without lag which is what BT Infinity 2 suffered from and I didn’t actually realise this until the switch over, the difference in Black Desert Online is enormous.

Browsing online is not so noticeable depending on the site being accessed but some downloads where the server is uncapped are a lot faster averaging a 40Mbps download speed. Overall I am pleased to have moved back to Virgin Media, it seems they have improved over the years and with the VIVID 350 package offering “no traffic management” speeds will never be capped during peak times. For wireless I have also purchased an ASUS RT-AC3200 router which is running as an access point, the reason I picked this one is due to the pricing (obtained for under £60) and the firmware is updated to counter the Wireless KRACK vulnerabilities. It is also great not having to worry about DLM related issues so I can power down or change my setup without the fear of the line being speeds being downgraded. As always I will report any changes in the future but so far things are looking good.
