Removing Rear Trailing Arm Bushes, FORD KA, Fiesta, Puma

You might be trying to do this yourself and if you are then probably have seen various methods online on how to remove the Bush. Techniques range from burning it out, using a hacksaw, holesaw, massive hammer and threaded puller tools.

Using the threaded puller tools found on ebay and other retailers you will find that the rod will not hold well against the force exerted when trying to remove the old bush. The rod is also listed as a consumable part so if you are trying to do this consider an alternate option.

Removal configuration, silver cup to press bush out of the trailing arm into the receiver cup

Installation configuration, silver cup to press new bush into trailing arm, when fully inserted will rest against the black end stop.

Using just the above tool will be a struggle especially if the bushes are heavily corroded and installing new bushes will also stress the M12 threads to breaking point. Having done this previously I decided to try an alternative solution.

  • Buy the puller / installer tool for the cups
  • Buy a ball joint removal tool consisting of a very big clamp (C-frame press kit)
  • Use the clamp in conjunction with the puller tool

The idea is to use the puller tool cups and rod for alignment but use the C-clamp to do the work as this makes it very easy and will not ruin the clamp’s rod as it is very strong, M24 vs M12.
